Unattended Children Policy
The Killingly Public Library is dedicated to providing a secure, welcoming environment to youth of all ages. However, the staff cannot be responsible for the safety and well-being of younger children while they are using the library’s facility and services. The following policy has been established to ensure a positive, safe library experience.
Revised September 2012
- All children aged 11 and under must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or responsible caregiver who remains with them throughout their stay.
- Children aged 12 and over may use the library unattended, as long as their behavior is not disruptive or destructive. They are expected to follow the general behavior policy for all Killingly Public Library patrons.
- Children must leave the library at closing time. If a child’s ride has not arrived, staff will attempt to contact a parent or guardian. If they are unsuccessful, the police will be notified.
