Killingly Public Library Patron Conduct Policy
The Killingly Public Library is a valuable community resource of materials, information services, and programs for the public benefit. Its doors are open to all regardless of origin, age, background, or views. It is the library’s responsibility to maintain an environment which is conducive to study and quiet conversation. In order to safeguard the public’s right of access to the library, to ensure the safety of patrons and staff, and to protect the library and its resources, the Killingly Public Library has established the following rules of behavior.
Persons who fail to comply with these policies will be asked to leave the library. Police will be notified if necessary.

- Any misconduct or inappropriate behavior that disturbs others or hinders them in their use of the library or library materials is not permitted. This includes loud and disruptive conversations, shouting, and the use of profane and/or abusive language.
- Inappropriate or revealing clothing that is offensive is not allowed. Beach attire is not allowed. This includes, but not is limited to: bikinis, speedos, and other revealing items. Shirts and footwear are required.
- Entering non-public areas of the library without prior permission is not allowed. Permission must be granted by authorized library personnel.
- Eating and drinking in the library is not permitted except during library approved functions. Eating and drinking is allowed in the front hallway. Please clean up any remaining food or drink.
- The use of alcohol, illegal drugs and/or tobacco products is prohibited on library property.
- The library is not responsible for personal belongings left unattended.
- The library reserves the right to inspect all bags, purses, briefcases, backpacks, etc. to help assure compliance with library check-out procedures.
- Solicitation on library property is not permitted.
- Theft or vandalism of library property will be prosecuted. This includes the building, equipment, furniture, and collections. Minors found damaging library property will have their guardians contacted. Police will be notified when extensive or costly damage occurs.
- Animals, other than those trained to assist disabled patrons, are not allowed in the library.
- The violation of federal, state, or local ordinances occurring on library property will be prosecuted, and library privileges may be suspended or banned at the discretion of the library director.
- The viewing of pornographic or obscene sites on any computer in the library is prohibited.
- Sleeping is not allowed in any part of the library. Those patrons sleeping will be woken up and asked to relocate to a different part of the library. This is a health and safety issue for both the patron and library staff.
