This week’s Talking Book Tuesday features our October “Cooking the book” book club pick The Night Circus.
“The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it, no paper notices plastered on lampposts and billboards. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not.”
These black and white tents hold much more than standard circus fare; inside are feats that surpass even the most magical thing your imagination can conjure. You see, the circus is merely a stage for the competition between two young illusionists who have been preparing for this game since they were young children. What was once a game became a collaboration and a love letter to their supporters and perhaps even to each other.
This is a wonderful book that immediately sweeps the reader away into a journey filled with lush imagery and wondrous adventure. It’s more than a book; it’s an experience to be savored. The audio version takes the story and elevates it to a higher level, thanks to the voice of Jim Dale, the voice of the Harry Potter books. Jim’s soothing British accent lulls his audience in a soothing way reminiscent of being told a bed time story.
Please join us October 26th at 6pm to discuss the book during “Cooking the Book”. Even if you haven’t had a chance to read it, feel free to bring a snack to share and listen to what others thought.
