2048. The History department at Oxford University has begun allowing a chosen few to travel back in time to expand their studies. It's far from easy to be chosen; a trip to the past requires extensive training in language and culture, as well as dozens of vaccinations. Graduate student Kivrin is selected as the first to visit England in the Middle Ages. While her trip back appears to gone off smoothly, everyone soon realizes that things have gone horribly wrong and might not be fixed quite that easily.
This Hugo and Nebula award winning book is an unusual piece of science fiction . It is well researched in both believable future technology and 14th century medical and social history. Doomsday Book could easily be categorized as historical fiction. Readers of both genres will find it informative, suspenseful, and so satisfying. Willis spent over five years crafting this first work in a trilogy of historical science fiction and it shows on every page.
