Rating: 4 stars
In this clear-eyed, emotionally devastating biography, also a memoir of family and football and true crime, Jonathan Hernandez finally tells the previously unknown story of a man no one fully understood. Jonathan draws on his won recollections as well as other sources to give us a full portrait of the star athlete and troubled young man who would be convicted of murder, and the darkness that consumed him for the entirety of his short life.
"I'm not a Patriots fan, but this book about Aaron Hernandez was interesting. Written by his brother, it tells the story how they grew up in CT in a close family, playing football together, and Aaron's rise to fame. The bad choices Aaron makes are directly related to the head injuries he had sustained over years of playing football, resulting in CTE. It's a sad story of a family torn apart by crime and illness. The way Aaron treats his mother is heartbreaking. A great quick read for football and true crime fans alike."
