Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
Rating: 4 Stars
Just finished a preview reading of teen novel: Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon This is Nicola Yoon’s first book. How would you feel if you couldn’t go outside, make friends, attend school or live a regular life? Madeline Whittier has lived most of her 17 years never leaving her home. She is allergic to the world. She reads sterile books, takes classes online and her best friend is her full-time nurse. Her mom has taken every precaution so that she can keep her precious daughter in a safe germ proof world. Madeline experiences life through her pristine book collection, online class work, and occasional game night with her mother. Things change when a new family moves next door. Madeline watches their every move. She’s especially interested Olly, the cute, energetic guy that looks about her age. The new neighbors come for a visit and a connection is made. You’re not sure at first if this is a good thing but there’s chemistry between the two. Even though they are not allowed to touch the two form a close bond that leads to some unexpected risk taking and ultimately some changes in Madeline’s life. I thought the book was a quick and interesting read. I especially like the fact that the author’s husband worked with her by illustrating. Drawings are found throughout. This book is suitable for teens and adults.
