How to Ruin Everything by George Watsky

On page one of his personal essay collection, How to Ruin Everything, George Watsky disclaims that “personal essaying is propaganda of the highest order, so anything that makes me look cool is also an example of my narcissism.” As a longtime fan I may be a little biased, but, barring the self-observed narcissism, I think he’s just genuinely cool.
I’ve been following Watsky’s career since I discovered his YouTube channel filled with hilarious, insightful, and inspirational spoken word poetry. Since then I’ve credited him as my all-time favorite poet, but now that he’s given me the gift of this wonderful bundle of essays I can say that he’s my all-time favorite essayist too. Sidebar: I haven’t read many essay collections, but still.
